Product Description Finally, a book for early childhood educators that combines child development and brain research!
How can early childhood teachers, administrators, and parents translate discoveries on early brain development into strategies that nurture cognitive growth? Synthesizing information from neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and child development, The Developing Brain offers brain-compatible teaching practices that are linked to NAEYC principles for working with young children.
Best-selling author Marilee Sprenger covers the basic structure, vocabulary, and current research on the brain from an early childhood educator's point of view and provides an abundance of illustrations and descriptions. This user-friendly guide includes:
* Background information on brain development from birth through age two
* Scenarios and snapshots of each year from age three through eight
* Reproducible developmental checklists
* Over 100 brain-based activities for classroom or child care settings

| Customer Reviews: Great resource! April 16, 2010 jpinksta (Chicago) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used this for my students and my own children. I like the child development checklists for each age group, and I've used the brain based strategies. The book has helped me differentiate instruction and follow my students' progress. It's a great resource.

This book was well written and reviewed basics of child development and recent brain development rather well. It was written for teachers and like many books written for educators underestimate the intellengence of teachers. It is filled with pictures rather than more information. I think there could have been a lot more meat on it's pages regarding brain complexity and how it should guide teaching. I came away with some new information but mostly it reinforced what I already knew. Well written, simple, clear but lacking in information for anyone really wanting to know how the brain develops.
